Yesterday, I got a panic call from a friend asking if he should invest in crypto.
He was anxious.
His friends had made big gains, and he hadn’t even started.
This is a textbook behavior of:-
FoMO (Fear of Missing Out),
Regret, and
Social comparison. (Sharmaji Paradox!!!)
Sadly, he’s not alone.
Every week, I hear similar stories.
Despite repeated guidance on long-term investing, many are still drawn in by the relentless noise of social media.
It’s painful to watch investors risk their hard-earned money.
Crypto is back in the spotlight once again.
Full-page ads in newspapers.
Prime-time TV commercials.
Sponsored business shows.
WhatsApp groups buzzing with “next big thing” tips.
This is extreme euphoria.
And that’s exactly when you should be cautious.
Yes, the past year’s returns for some big names look spectacular:
Ripple (XRP): +392%
Bitcoin (BTC): +101%
Ethereum (ETH): +67%
But before you rush in, ask yourself: Are you chasing gains or risking your hard-earned money?
So… should you invest?
The short answer is “NO”.
Why You Should Stay Away from Crypto
Crypto may seem exciting, but it comes with serious risks:
Extreme Volatility – Prices can swing 10–20% or more in a single day.
Unregulated in India – No government backing or guarantees.
High Risk of Loss – Coins can fail or crash due to market sentiment.
Psychological Stress – FOMO and constant monitoring can lead to poor decisions.
No Intrinsic Value – Cryptocurrencies don’t produce earnings, dividends, or cash flow.
Security Risks – Hacks, lost wallets, and scams can erase your investment.
Tax Complexity – Crypto taxation is confusing, and penalties can apply.
History of boom & bust – Every hype cycle leaves more losers than winners.
In short, Crypto may promise quick thrills, but it is high-risk, speculative, and unsuitable for long-term wealth creation.
The Takeaway
Investing isn’t about chasing hype or overnight riches.
It’s about protecting your capital, staying patient, and building sustainable wealth.
Crypto may be tempting, but for most investors, the safest path is to stay away.
Focus on strategies that deliver growth with security and peace of mind.
Remember: Quick thrills can turn into long-term regrets. Choose wisely.
Warren Buffett put it bluntly: “Bitcoin is probably rat poison squared.”
Better to stay safe than sorry later.
